Fivemiletown Football: 1936/37

Not sure if Fivemiletown was about last season (1935/36) as I never found anything relating to them, but in September 1936, I find them travelling to Aughnacloy to take on Aughnacloy Rovers in a friendly game, where the home side beat them, five goals to one.
The following week Aughnacloy United came to Fivemiletown for an Inter-League match. At the interval, Fivemiletown was leading by one goal to nil scored by Graham. In the second half, Fivemiletown took complete control and scored another four goals leaving the result five goals to nil.
Goals- McNulty (2), Graham (2) and Breadon.

Fivemiletown 1-4 Omagh Depot
The opening game of this season’s league seen Fivemiletown defeated against a very strong Omagh team.


Football Dance
At the end of October, a dance was held in connection with Fivemiletown Football Club in the golf clubhouse. M.C for the night was Mr J. E. Bloomfield, while the local jazz band supplied the music.

Fivemiletown 1-4 Corinthian
The game was played in a downpour of rain which made the game a bit sluggish. The first half was evenly contested but a missed timed tackle by Fivemiletown resulted in a penalty for the Corinthians giving them the lead at the break. Fivemiletown conceded two more goals shortly after the restart, there was a slight ray of hope when Breadon reduced the lead but Corinthians made sure of being in the next round a few minutes later.
Fivemiletown: O’Malley, Torrens, McMahon, Hackett, Breadon, Porter, H. Graham, G. Graham, E. Moore, McNulty and Busby.


Mercer Cup
Enniskillen Celtic 2-2 Fivemiletown
Celtic led by two goals to nil but Fivemiletown managed to score two late goals to take a point.

Fivemiletown 0-0 Corinthians
From the start, Corinthians had the best of the play, but the home defence was sound. O’Malley, the home keeper, saved a penalty and Breadon skimmed the crossbar at the other end. The second half seen the tables turned, with Fivemiletown have the better of play and it was the visiting keeper who saved a penalty. A well-contested game resulted in a draw.

Omagh Depot 3-0 Fivemiletown
The Omagh side started much better than the visitors, scoring three goals in the first half. Fivemiletown ‘put up a splendid show’ in the second half but had too much to do.

Fivemiletown 2-4 R.U.C Depot
The report said; ‘The visitors were a much heavier lot than the home team’.
The play was suspended for a short time in the second half when the crowd rushed the field after an altercation between players occurred.

The first fixture of the New Year was supposed to be against Enniskillen Celtic but they were unable to raise a team and had to postpone the match.

Corinthians 6-0 Fivemiletown
Although Corinthians had two of their main players missing due to a car accident they were still too strong for Fivemiletown.
The report said Fivemiletown had ‘fought gamely’  

Fivemiletown 4-3 Enniskillen Celtic
this match took place on the Recreation Ground, Fivemiletown.
The report said there was rough play and one of the home players was sent off’ it didn’t say at what time the player was sent off, but at halftime Celtic led by three goals to nil, regardless whether they were 10 men or 11, this was a great come back and registered their first win of the season

R.U.C Depot 3-0 Fivemiletown
Fivemiletown’s final league game and another man sent from the pitch, this time he was named, Breadon, sent off for an altercation with an opposition player in the first half, and in the second half, Fivemiletown conceded an own goal just to make things worse.

They finished bottom of the league (5 Teams) with two draws and a win, 4 points.
Omagh Depot went on to take the title with 11 points.

Fivemiletown created a bit of a shock with this draw and they missed a penalty.

Mulhern Cup Semi-Final
Fivemiletown 3-1 Corinthians
After a poor season, Fivemiletown had a great cup run beating the top two teams to reach the final.

In the other semi-final, R.U.C were three goals to the good when Enniskillen Celtic disagreed with the referee's decision and walked off the pitch.

The R.U.C team included Clayton and McLoughlin,  two members of Banger, the Irish league Club.
Fivemiletown had a very large contingent of supporter who travelled to Enniskillen for this cup final.
